My companion of these many years
Has settled
In the lining
Of my hopes and dreams and fears
Laugh lines marking
All the memories
That we share and hold so dear
Like a soft enfolding blanket
Slightly tattered
But still warm
Let your aging arms embrace me
Keep us gentle
Through the storm
If they ever were to ask me
What great wonder
I could do
What the pinnacle of life is
I would tell them
