Missed Appointment

Darkness creeps round the corner
Of this dim-lit avenue
It’s past midnight
Outside this café
As its soft light beckons you
Dressed up for love
But here you find
Regret and solitude
You missed your appointment
And your suitor withdrew

You’re a bird of paradise
With your finery and grace
You shine a deeper light within
Than is found here in his place
Like a style queen luxuriant
Knowing you have won the race
But it’s wasted and this solitude
Cannot be replaced

All the steps that you have taken
All the time you would replace
All the dreams you have forsaken
Far too late to reach this place
You are late for your appointment
This is like a fall from grace
So you’ll never know the secrets
And it’s etched now on your face

Downcast eyes
Won’t see the sunrise
Downcast eyes

If they couldn’t be bothered waiting it sounds like you were lucky.

This quickly-paced rhyming piece has a lovely cadence and voice. Well done.

  4. Oh, how sad! And yet, still so beautiful!
I don’t know how you come up with all these poems! You rock!
