I regret most
the moments of indecision
Relinquishment to fear
Words unspoken
Deeds undone
Though their mere utterance
or action may
have torn the world asunder
Instead now in this slumber
of nothingness
I regret
I regret more
the glance averted,
the turning head or back
Love’s ending
in false beginnings
Though the move to an embrace
or yet a kiss may
have broken all communion,
devastated any union
into nothingness
I regret

Regret is such a bitter pill to swallow. I have had so many. I am trying to live the last half of my life without any….but, still, things crop up. Never again, though, will this shy girl avert a glance….they shall be met with a smile. You just never know where it may lead. Love you, Helen!! This was great and made me really ponder for a time.
Thanks so much my dear, so much appreciated!! π
Powerful poem. The first two lines really grabbed me.
Thank you!! π π
Powerful words. Everyone has regrets in their life, something they wish they could have done differently. You can’t allow regrets to interfere with your present because the past is the past and there is no changing it.
Very true! Thank you!! π
once again, I totally relate β₯
Thank you so much!! π π
The only thing I regret is having that egg and pork roll after my tea.
LOL…yes, sometimes what we eat causes the most immediate of regrets!! π π
Regrets are things Im trying to stay away from the most. They burden the mind and pouson the soul with guilt and anxiety.. I wish you to never have them or never let them get to you.,
I think that is very wise. My poem is just admitting that I still have them from time to time, but I agree they are not helpful thoughts or emotions to have. π
I have nominated you for the Liebster blog award. Just love your poetry and thought you deserved the exposure (well more exposure). http://ambrozya.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/the-liebster-award-thank-you/
Thank you so much, that is so kind of you!! π π
No regrets! Regrets are sad,
Very true, but sometimes they arise or linger, even if we know there is little point to having them. π
Lovely poem, Helen! I too can relate to this one, and it inspires me to reach out and not shy away from the unfamiliar.
Thank you, glad it could be inspirational!! π
That bitter drink called Regret goes down much smoother with a bourbon and Coke. Or two. π
Or Vodka and tonic…that works too!! π π
Pass me that vodka and tonic, will you, dear? I am having trouble getting to sleep…

Beautiful! β€
Thank you!!! π π
I think you’ve summed it up beautifully for all of us.
Well done.
Thanks so much!! π π
I can definitely relate to this
Thank you!! π
The biggest regrets always involve opportunities not taken. I have a different view on regrets, they can be great teachers if we let them, no regrets to me means that I will not let myself learn the lessons they teach and will never grow past a selfish shallow personality that thinks all my actions are good or were necessary. I can never fool myself into believing I have never done anything I should not have, but I can learn from them and decrease the amount of regrets I have in the future. Like I said my view is a little different.
It’s a very valid view and a healthy one too, so thank you for sharing. One of the other things I think about regret is we always look back on choices not taken thinking they would have inevitably worked out better – if we are in the regret frame of mind…but of course they may not have been better at all had we taken them. We nearly always make our choices in a state of imperfect information after all. π
Very true.
I can relate to every line. I love it! You’re a brilliant poet!
Thanks so much!!! π π
I was pondering this very thing yesterday morning. Where’s the reset button…?
Very true, it would be nice to go back sometimes, but then, who is to say any other choice would actually work out better? π π
