Asylum

Give me shelter
My mind
has shattered
before an unimaginable force

Give me a home
I am an alien
to my own soul
My mirror reflects a stranger

Give me protection
The battle I have seen
internally is but devils
running amok

Give me peace
An opiate to draw me down
within a quiet white room
where I may rest

    Very cool.

  2. You really caught the sense of desperation and panic that comes from being put in an asylum. It’s a shame that people look at them as horrible places instead of institutions that can help those in dire need.

  3. powerful stuff, reminds me of Mushroom season, tried thinking of angels but could only see the fallen ones within.

Yeah, I have days where I feel this way. Just need to collect my poor little brain from being bludgeoned but the world out there. A nice asylum… I kind of think that is what I am missing right now in my life… a place to go to get away from it all.

  5. Amazing work Helen, you write masterfully on every topic and your work cover such a huge range of topics

I can so relate to your line of “my mirror reflects a stranger.”

Wow, that really rang true here.

Another excellent poem, Helen. Keep it up. You have a real gift
