The Killing

All the newspapers
Scream lurid headlines
Dehumanizing the loss

Someone’s daughter
Someone’s bride
Statistically defined

Blood and flesh
Rendered upon
Tabloid voyeurism

The killing kills
Twice; the knife blade first
The gossip close behind

I’m glad to see this being addressed in your poem. It always bothers me when someone’s pain becomes entertainment for someone else.

  2. Excellent poem sis… media gets annoying at time… sensationalism going on now with a trial in Arizona… verdict reached and will be announced in a few minutes…. it’s crazy media frenzy. (sigh)

Powerful. To the point. And it needed to be said…exploitation…is not entertainment on any level!!

  6. I like the way you end this poem, very neatly and succinctly put.
