With whatever strength you first admire
Will bring the depth of cut known at the fall
When the one to whom you would aspire
Turns out to own the feet of clay of all
Where once his words and lyrics made you fly
Above all petty foolishness below
Now actions through these years have proved the lie
Of all the finer sentiments you know
The muse no longer calls you to your heart
The passion and the anthems fall away
The troubadour you worshipped at the start
To power and to riches, fallen prey
How is it that our better natures fall
And worst in those we thought above it all?

Personally I put it down to growing wiser.
Could well be right about that – or just getting more information, seeing more of someone, seeing the patters that weren’t clear before. There’s also that thing about power corrupting. In any case, it’s a shame that someone one looks up to proves not to be what one thought. Maybe he was to start with and just changed wih success, who knows? 🙂
Good stuff here my friend…. I think we can all relate to this! 😉
Thank you! It’s always such a shame when this happens, isn’t it? I much prefer to admire a muse rather than be disappointed. 🙂
