Never Know

Lost Love

Lost Love (Photo credit: Inge Vautrin Photography)

I loved you
But did not know the way
I had some words
But not the art to say
The message deep
Silent and still within
I loved you then
But would not yet begin

Did you love me?
I see I’ll never know
Your actions might have been
To let such feelings show
But I was cowardly
And deep within, inept
I shut my eyes
And all my secrets kept.

What I like most about this poem are these words:

But did not know the way
    I had some words
But not the art to say
    The message deep
    Silent and still within

I like it so much because there were many times in my life where I could not articulate exactly how I was feeling. I look back at that time a lot and wish I knew then what I know now. This is a really beautiful and sad poem Helenvalentina.

    • Thanks so much – it doe seem that regret is a great muse for poetry…I guess it means there is something positive made out of regrets that would otherwise just sadden…. πŸ™‚

I enjoyed the poem, until one of your comments caught my attention more πŸ™‚ something positive made out of regrets, that would otherwise just sadden … too often I get stuck in that sadness for awhile and wallow, not so much in regrets, but I still wallow … thanks for sharing this poem

  7. Helen, I enjoyed this so much. It touched my heart deeply. Great work!! πŸ˜€

    Sad and beautiful.

  11. Awwww I have experienced this myself

    • Thanks, I think it is a common experience, when fear overtakes love…I often think to myself when people say love conquers all, that too often fear conquers love….

      • I have see that many times and it breaks my heart, when I was younger I was like that too. Now I am the painfully obvious sort and the sort to take risks when its with love. I moved to Sweden to live with a man I had only physically been around for 2 weeks (he came to the states first to visit me). He is my husband now but you know I just knew, everyone was sure I’d lost my mind. The thing is once my mom met him I think she knew too because we got married within 6 months of meeting and she had the whole thing planned in less than 1 week and we were only 19 at the time, everyone thought she was crazy too lol

      • Good on you fo following your heart – it’s very heartwarming, literally, to hear stories like that!! πŸ™‚

Your word “inept” caught my eye. I highly doubt that you are. You paint beautiful stories here. In due time , perhaps your ability to communicate on paper will transfer to your voice. This is a very touching (sad) poem, but I love it.
