Weary eyes
fight to stay open,
defeat sleep
Longest days
Dark in the morning
draws us out
Streetlights shine
Even at 6am
step by step
Remember
comfort of your bed
left behind
Do not sleep
even as you walk
comatose
Dangers hide
even at the dawn
Stay alert!

I’m just imagining the obstacle course that my bedroom floor is at 3am.
LOL…I know the feeling!! 🙂
This sounds all too familiar, lol. 🙂
Thank you, obviously you are an early morning walker too? 🙂
Hehe, I talk about it almost everyday. 3:15 AM local time. 🙂
I love walking in the early morning…when I’m actually up. There is something about the stillness of the air… But since I’m a veritable night owl I don’t walk much in the morning…I am up (still) at 3:00 am 🙂
Wow…not being a night owl at all the concept of being up at 3am is mind boggling to me, LOL!! 🙂
LOL! Well, it’s 330 and I’m up so it’s kind of normal for me. I have sleep issues so that’s why 🙂
I wake at 6 am every morning to do yoga. Its rarely quiet though because my daughter wakes up very early and asks nonstop questions the whole time lol In those moments it is quiet and still and I can hear the birds its so peaceful =) I love walking too but being a rather petite female alone at off hours is dangerous, what that says about society isn’t very nice.
I know, exactly – I love the feeling of an early mornng walk in terms of peacefulness but I have to admit to also feeling a slight sense of fear at such times too…which I guess is part of being a woman in such circumstances unfortunately! 🙂
It is unfortunate as a kid I was just totally unaware of that I would walk from like dawn to dusk at first in the projects and then later when I moved through the woods I imagine both had dangers!
I know what you mean – I guess its the loss of innocence as you grow older…very sad really.
It really is, though I am some kind of super pervert magnet so I have to be really careful. I am not really pretty in any conventional way and I dress modestly but if there is a pervert anywhere nearby then they make it their mission to talk to me.
“Do not sleep, even as you walk comatose”….classic. Another great one, Helen!! I am having the best time reading all the stuff I missed a la funk. 🙂
Thank you so much! I’ve enjoyed keeping up with your work – lovely as always – but did notice you weren’t around all that much…hope you are ok? 🙂
Slipped into a bit of funk….seasonal depression maybe. Hated being away, though. I am back….I missed you and Roxi a lot actually. My two blessings!!! I do feel much better. Thank you for noticing my absence.
I would always notice your absence my friend…I check your blog every day…it’s so uplifting to read one of your poems to start my day!! 🙂
