In matters of the heart
I am not traditional
Everything has a kind
of quirk
I’m not perverse
but it’s still relative
In my occupation
I’m more conservative
This veering from the norm
does not arise from choice
An inner voice
keeps pestering me
For whys and wherefores,
the logic of a thought
which kills the romance
by degrees

Yes, over analyzing things can sometimes interfere with relationships… or anything for that matter. When I was a counselor, I used to call it “Analysis Paralysis.” Good piece Helen.
Yep, I know the analysis paralysis feeling, and not just on personal matters!! LOL. š
Love this. I feel like I get this wonderful opportunity to see specks into your soul via this poem. ‘Tis brilliant my dear! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, yes, sometimes poetry does become a bit like a public confessional, LOL š
Sigh–understand this one. I am overly analytical, and that is a total romantic buzz kill after a while.
So true – it is a buzz kill! Thank you so much for your kind words! š
‘This veering from the norm

An inner voice’
Recognizable! Even though for me it works into a different direction.
Thank you – I guess we all have our different relationship patterns and ways of thinking/analysing them. Glad to hear the poem could be relatable even if this was different to yours š
