Strange Haunting

I am haunted
By a ghost
Of a man
Who’s still alive
I do not know him
Never will
And yet it seems
We are entwined
His work is public
Mine is private
Yet still I find
Some similarity
Which in its strangeness
And despite distance
Still breeds this odd
Familiarity

I dream vignettes
Of his life’s work
In prescient details
Less than profound
It’s true I like him
At a distance
But no wish to meet
I have yet found
Maybe this haunting’s just
In the circuitry
Of a broader
Electric force
Still I dream his dance
In a premonition
Of the trajectory
Of his course.

Curious as why no wish to meet – might it spoil the magic?

    • The whole thing is just odd…the actor concerned sems like a nice guy but I genuinely don’t have any urge to meet him (or any actor really…). I think maybe some people loom large in the zeitgeist from time to time and maybe I’m not alone in picking up on it. šŸ™‚ But theres a bit of creative licence in the poem, of course!! šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚

Yes, I know what you mean. Sometimes I have a connection to a person’s art or work, but I don’t need to know the person as such. Great poem that intrigues – I love how it engaged me.

I love the rhythm of the words and of the story. Really good work.

Intriguing, you will have to tell me more

  5. Very interesting poem! I have one of these too (Concert Pianist) possibly a little different to what you are expressing here. I wrote a short story about it, and something that happened recently relating to him. And I know exactly what you mean, you can have a strange connection to someone and not know them, and you wonder why they are even in your mind! šŸ˜€

    • Thanks – yes, it is odd when things like this happen. I don’t really think the connection is personal per se, just kind of embellished that for the poem’s effect, but its mainly dreaming stuff they then turn out to do, which is very odd indeed. šŸ™‚

    Recognizable!
Though I always develop a wish to meet the person – even when it doesn’t happen in the end.
