I Loved You Once

I loved you once
When we were young
You were the poet
The song unsung
I barely knew
What we’d begun
Before our time was done

I loved you then
I’d love you now
If all our history
We’d avow
But where begin
I know not how
Defeated I withdraw and bow

I’ll love you yet
Some future life
Where loss and lies
Are not so rife
When hearts bleed not
From sharp blade knife
You’ll be the husband, I the wife
