Firefly
Burning bright
Pinpoint princess
Of the night
If the stars
Could learn to fly
They would follow
Firefly
Firefly
Shining jewel
Sparkling bright
Almost cruel
Feeling love
As you pass by
Glitter for me
Firefly

I’ve never seen a firefly. The only things we get round here late at night are moths, cats fighting and drunks.
No fireflies? None?? This makes me sad… Some of my favorite memories growing up involved chasing and catching fireflies on summer nights… I used to pretend they were fairies. I’d tell them my wishes and secrets and let them go. =) ❤
To be honest, this is Britain. We don’t exactly have much of a summer either. There’s generally one day in August when we can strip down to our thermals. It’s usually snowing again by four o’clock though.
Thanks to you both for commenting…Brian, as always, your wry humor is infectious…drgnflygrrl, I’m with you, it would be sad not to have fireflies though I must admit I haven’t seen many around my home city so I probably wrote more of the dream/thought of fireflies than of the actual experience. 🙂
Oh my!! Too funny!! I feel pretty spoiled now.
I sound like a broken record; beautiful…just beautiful!
Thank you so much – I really appreciate it!! 🙂 🙂
I love this. My favorite so far! 😀
Thank you so much!! 🙂 🙂
Reblogged this on poetreecreations.org and commented:
Great poem
Oh, how I love this…. May I have your permission to print this {giving you credit of course} and also reblog {again, linking to your blog giving you full credit} it’s just so perfect.
Of course, go right ahead, and thank you for your kind words about the poem! 🙂
I like this more positive, uplifting work of yours,
Thank you! I’m happier when I write the more uplifting work…I guess my muse is just a bit moody at times though! 🙂 🙂
I saw fireflies for the first time in Tennessee and I was in awe of them… such special creatures 😉
They certainly sound beautiful! 🙂
This one is really sweet and simple.. Loved it
Thanks so much!! 🙂 🙂
I’d love to see a firefly!
So would I, to be honest…the poem is more an ode to the idea than experience! 😉
Sometimes imagination can be better than the real thing!
Seriously, my favorite so far!! Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you so much!!! 🙂 🙂
I have also written one on Firefly, but a different sentiment.
Cool. 🙂 🙂
This is so light and fun it almost makes me think I could fly:-)
Thank you!!! 🙂 🙂
This is fantastic Helen love the 2nd stanza especially! Where I grew up there were lots of fireflies =)
Cool…I’m not sure I’ve ever even really seen one, except in pictures or movies etc…not sure if we get them in Australia.. we might, I just don’t know for sure!! 🙂
Really? I am from North Carolina on a summer night its like the stars have descended
Sounds wonderful!! 🙂 🙂
I enjoyed it! Now in Sweden there are so few insects and when I went to visit my mom in NC and tried to walk through the woods in the summer there were swarms of insects everywhere! Fireflies are nice but there are plenty of bugs especially the poisonous ones and the massive massive amounts of ticks that I don’t miss haha
I love the line
“Pinpoint princess of the night.” Very well worded Helen, as always.
Thank you!! 🙂 🙂
This reminds me of a poem I wrote for my friend Jessica (as a birthday present) several years ago. I can only remember part of it, “Heart you I/ My Friend Firefly/ You are of two worlds/ Each you share your fire”. Your poem is great 🙂 Being originally from Michigan I have seen many fireflies. Since I live in TN I still see them every summer. They light up my yard like Christmas lights 🙂 I especially love your first two stanzas helenvalentina 🙂
Thank you, and your poem sounds lovely…great imagery and emotion, even in the few words you recall. 🙂 🙂
I nominated you! http://soadhachami.wordpress.com/2013/05/10/the-wonderful-team-member-award-second-batch-of-nominees/
Thank you so much, so very kind of you!!! I very much appreciate you thinking of me. 🙂
I adore fireflies – they are sooo cute and, yes, i have those memories as a child trying to catch them and placing them in a jar with a lid that has holes poked through. they are just beautiful little creatures.
Cool…they do sound amazing, though I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. 🙂
One of the best books about fireflies is written by Eric Carle. He is an author of children’s books. It is visually beautiful and just adorable.
