Drama Queen

Lady Macbeth

Lady Macbeth (Photo credit: widdowquinn)

You live a tragedy
Like Anna Karenina
Weeping, disconsolate
By the train
You’re so dramatic
Like Lady Macbeth
With wild ambition
No more restrained
Or like Camilla
Le Fanu’s vampire
Leaving every victim
Soulless, drained
Could you please refrain?

Why so histrionic
Like Cathy’s lost ghost
Clawing at windows
In the night
Or Brooding Heathcliff
Ruining families
To revenge
Unforgiven slights
You’re twisted justice
With her blindfold
Robbed of her balance
Without sight
Can’t you see
Oh can’t you see
The flag we’re waving here is white?
Could you please
Give us relief
From your imaginary fight?
I wish you may…
I wish you might…

Oh, those Drama Queens!! Couldn’t we all just live without them, at least in real life. They make for interesting reading and watching, though. Great job, Helen!!

  2. Great poem. I love the Lady Macbeth reference since I immediately began thinking of Ophelia (I think.)

” Anna Karenina” ironic, I just watched that movie last night:)

    • Ah, the synchroncity of writing. Did you watch the new movie version – if so what did you think? i found the stylised form a bit jarring at first but by the end it had won me over. πŸ™‚

I did– and for the first third of the movie my hand hovered over the remote in indecision, but then things shifted a bit and I started to enjoy it.

      • Yes, it was just like that for me..probably only stayed with it because I like Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFaddyen…but it did improve and by the end I really loved it. πŸ™‚

    • I feel for you if you have a friend like this! Luckily for me I don’t, but I have known a few in my time, LOL. πŸ™‚ I don’t know how they do it, to be frank, it all looks so energetic that it would be exhausting!! πŸ™‚

  7. Excellent! I have known my fair share of drama queens it really is exhausting, I can’t even begin to understand all the mind games which I suppose is a good thing because I am so oblivious that people usually don’t bother playing them or maybe its that I don’t notice lol

I wrote an incredibly long comment and lost it! Grr… Let’s just say you’ve capture the spirit of the drama queen perfectly, Helen. It’s not fun being around them because they’re like a black hole–no light escapes and their victims are trapped. Good writing!
