Sweat on the brow
A visual sign
Of inner resolve
Too many times
Weakened and crippled
At the last hurdle
Greed, rapaciousness
Dissolving within
Sweat and shame
Sacrificial offering
Burn out the soul
Eternal pyre
For one brief moment
As sinews stretch
You raise your eyes
And know forgiveness
Not of the other
But of yourself

we so easily forgive others… but not ourselves. interesting isn’t it….

Thanks so much…yes, often if feels impossible to forgive oneself I find. 🙂
I painfully know the that particular truth…
🙂
Great poem! You are so talented!
Thank you, that is so kind of you! 🙂
This poem makes me want to be in that “one brief moment” of knowing forgiveness of self. One day soon I will be there…I just know it! Thank you for the hope that your poem gave me this evening.
You are more than welcome, glad it could have that effect (and I am sure you will make it to that feeling too), and thank you for your kind words! 🙂
I forgive … ME … perhaps one of the hardest things we ever do. Awesome poem.
Thanks so much! 🙂 Very true.
